This is my cat Garry. He is an inspiration just by being...well...Garry. I could go into the whole back story of this fabulous cat but to keep it short, he's only been a part of our family for about 10 years now, but he loves us like we've been his family his whole life (he was 5 yrs old when we got him.)
This morning, I was petting him and found a HUGE lump on his chest...like..golf ball sized right by his throat. I called the vet and luckily she was able to get us in today. On my way there I started praying, "Please God, please don't let this be cancer." Before I walked in the doors on the clinic I did one last plea. "God, seriously, I see this as a sign that I'm suppose to quit dabbling with my occasional cigarette." That might be a stretch for some of you, but let me explain why.
1. The lump seemed to show up over night on him. I just started sneeking a puff at the house YESTERDAY. Only when I drink, that's been my excuse, "only socially, and only when I drink" which is not that often...really! That is true!
2. I also have "stuff" in my throat that I've been blaming on coffee but it could be the start of something more serious.
3. I've been CRAVING cigarettes more often...I have to acknowledge that!
So before Garry and I went into the clinic I made a deal. "God, if you let this be something other than cancer, I will take it as my wake up call and QUIT." A few tests later they decided that it is a cyst from an infected wound. Garry does like to hunt mice at night so I let him out,,,but NO MORE! Too dangerous and too EXPENSIVE! We live outside of town a few miles and we actually originally got him to help decrease the amount of mice we saw on our property. He did! 30 MICE A SUMMER...way to go GARRY! But now I know I need to help us both out. Keep him indoors AND keep cigarettes out of my mouth. It will be a healthier lifestyle for BOTH OF US. Because seriously? What are the odds that he gets a cut and infection THERE??? The UNIVERSE is trying to speak to us DAILY...are YOU LISTENING?? I think I will ;)
