There are many types of meditation, but the main point to remember is to "be still and know that I am God". By just sitting for a few minutes a day with the "intent" to meditate will focus your thoughts, decrease your stress, and make you feel in some way- happier!
1. Sit on the floor, on a pillow, or a chair in a spacious part of your home.
2. If on the floor, sit cross legged, with your palms facing up on your legs. If in a chair, sit with your legs flat on the floor and your palms facing up on your lap.
3. Close your eyes, clear your mind, and breath.
If you mind wants to wander, bring it back to focus on your breathing. If you can only focus for even 2-3 minutes on this, that's a good start! After focusing on my breathing for a bit, I will focus on my body, one area at a time and ask , "How am I feeling? How do my feet feel? My calves? Thighs? Etc.. Do I feel any pain or discomfort in this area? If so, I will visualize a white light coming from above coming down through the top of my head, filling me with energy, HEALING, and calm. I usually end by thanking my higher power for this "one on one time" and say to myself three times "I am healthy, happy, and inspired by GOD" before moving on with my day. TYPES OF MEDITATION
There are over a dozen main stream types of meditation. The main ones I found were, Bahai Faith, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Jainism, Islam, Judaism, New Age, Sikhism, and Taoism. It is important to note, however, that meditation, in and of itself, is NOT, I repeat, NOT associated with any one religion. It is a practice, which though used by many religions, is not EXCLUSIVE to any one. I like to think of it as a part of leading a healthy life style. Here is what Wikipedia says about meditation. "Meditation is generally an inwardly oriented, personal practice, which individuals can do by themselves." Wikipedia also states, "In over 1,000 published research studies, various methods of meditation have been linked to changes in metabolism, blood pressure, brain activation, and other bodily processes.[7][8] Meditation has been used in clinical settings as a method of stress and pain reduction.[9][10]"
